When using mp3 player and media player at the same time, all of the sounds will output to all sound output devices speaker and earphone. Is it possible to let the mp3 only output in speaker while the media player only output in earphone? If you're running Windows and your PC has an HDAudio solution, then the speakers and headphones may appear as two separate output devices it depends - for instance, on my laptop the headphones and speakers appear as the same output device and there's an electrical switch that switches between the two when the headphones are plugged in.
If the headphones and speakers appear as separate audio devices, then hopefully your media player has configuration options that allow you to select the output device it uses. If you're running an AC'97 audio solution and I suspect you are because your audio solution appears to support hardware loopbackyou are likely to be out of luck - it all depends on how the manufacturer of your audio solution wired it up.
If you're running Windows 7, if you launch the audio Playback controls control panel mmsys. Learn more. How to split-output sounds to speaker and earphone? Asked 11 years, 4 months ago. Active 11 years, 4 months ago. Viewed 30k times. StackOverflow is for programming questions.

I have a back audio panel for the following: subwoofer out, rear speaker out, side speaker out, line in, front speaker out, mic in. They all are connected to the same onboard sound card. The headphone jack is the same as the front speaker out. The speaker is connected to the back panel front speaker out.
I want my headset to only have audio from a program called ventrillo. This way when im playing a video game I can hear my friends in my ear without the annoying noise from the game interupting my friends talking to me.
In both programs the video game Battlefield bad company 2 there is no option to select the output device, they just have different options that alter the sounds for your setup. In ventrillo I can easyily setup the output device and input device but the problem is the headset and speakers are both connected to an onboard audio device and after a few tests I know for a fact the front speaker in back panel and headset out front panel are both the same.
I cant change the setting for them individually, without effecting both. How can I change my setup so my headset is getting audio ONLY from the program ventrillo and my speakers pick up all my other sounds. Does this require 2 sound cards? Wetmelon Distinguished.

When you communicate using Skype or WhatsApp you may want to route the sound to your headphones so that nobody will hear what you are talking about, but in other cases you may prefer all sound play through your speaker system.
Very long time ago we all used to connect and disconnect headphones to change the output device but this method is so yesterday. Nowadays almost everyone is using a sound card that supports high-definition setup. This means that such sound cards can use multiple outputs for different apps at the same time that is a way more convenient.
But nevertheless, from time to time you have to swap sound output from speakers to headphones or backwards manually. And in this guide we will explain several ways to switch sound output between speakers, headphones, HDMI, etc on Windows Until recently, Windows 10 used the Control Panel applet for switching audio input and output devices.
First, make sure the speaker icon is not hidden in the additional section — click on the arrow and look for it. Note that you can drag icons from this section directly to the main area of your System Tray:. Yet another thing — now you should make sure that the Volume icon is not disabled in the Settings.
Follow the steps:. If no success, please, check if the proper audio driver is installed. Go to the official website of your PC, motherboard or external sound card manufacturer, navigate to the Support section, search for your exact product model, download the driver for your current Windows version and install it.
Stereo Mix is a virtual input device that allows you to record all the sounds that are played on your PC. In such a way you can record sounds that you cannot find and download normally.
You can also use a deprecated Control Panel applet for this purpose we talked about in the previous paragraph. If you switched the audio output device but the sound still plays through the same device, check the setting of the program that is currently used to play the sound song, track, sample. Probably, it has an ability to select the audio device separately from the system settings. If you want a certain app or program to use system audio settings, you should select Windows Default or Default in its settings.

Interesting question. Depending on the mainboard and sound card, I wouldn't think so, but other experts may have found a different option. Will keep monitoring this to see where it goes.

If you have more than one app playing audioWindows will route the audio stream through the same audio device. This is something that can only be accomplished through a third-party app.
There are quite a few apps that let you output audio to two different devices however, for a free solution we recommend using Audio Router. Audio Router is a free, open source app that lets you send the audio output of an app to your device of choice.
The audio devices must be configured correctly i. Install Audio Router and play audio in two different apps, or in separate instances of the same app. Run Audio Router and it will show you an interface that resembles the volume mixer in Windows.
Note the dropdown arrow under each app that is running, and the audio devices that you are configured on your system. Another small window will open with a dropdown for selecting the audio device that you want to route your audio to. Select a device. The audio from the app will be sent to the device you selected.
